About Acton
The town of Acton, Ontario is in the Halton Region of Southern Ontario and is home to approximately 9,700 residents.
Acton is located at the intersection of Highway 7 and Halton Regional Road 25 and is just 72 km from Toronto.
Action was originally called Dansville and later Adamsville, named after a family who settled there in the early 1800's. The name was officially changed in 1846 by the postmaster to Acton, named for an area in West London, England.
Acton was nicknamed “Leathertown” in its early years since the tanning industry became an integral part of the early history.
The Olde Hide House in Acton is a popular shopping destination and is widely known as Canada’s largest leather store.
Acton has an active sports community with three minor league hockey teams. Curling, minor baseball and soccer are also popular team sports in Acton.
There's an active downtown community in Acton with many restaurants catering to every taste including Italian, Greek, and Thai.
